Cons: Extremely disorganized
The exams:
1) One "big" essay (prompt / question / topic is given beforehand, may prepare at home and bring in on day of exam)
2) several "mini" essays (topics are given beforehand as well) This was the only part of the class I didn't like but still it is beneficial because it makes you learn about middle eastern culture. There might be 4 or 5 "possible mini essays" and you will end up turning in only one. If you prepare them at home, which I HIGHLY recommend (because you don't want to sit in the room at 8am on exam day and write out these essays) you can leave after you turn in the one that is chosen by them, but that also means you spend a lot of time writing stuff that wont ever be graded.
Even if you have no interest in Middle East studies, you should still take this class. You will write a lot like I said but a 4.0 is not very hard. Near the end of my class they handed out a 25 point extra credit project which I think many people received full credit on. You need 620/650 to 4.0 this class so that was pretty substantial. Buy all the books they list also and you'll learn tons about something you most likely knew little about. Awesome class.

The only down side is Ron can get a bit boring with his lectures but just get an extra big Coffee to get through it. Carol is so excited and loves everything she is talking about, and they both have stories from thier trips and know what they are talking about.
TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU CAN
